copyright concerns raised. If you are concerned about this you may prefer
services that guarantee all their content is 100% legal.
Rather than downloading movies from other peoples computers, as is done
with File Sharing Networks, legal
movie downloads sites provide movies from their own servers. This
means the files are guaranteed to be safe, and of very high quality.
They typically offer generous free trials, giving you immediate access to
high quality movies with no obligation.
You will usually be given the option to stream the movies in real
time. This means you can be watching your first movie right
away, there is no need to wait for your first download.
The
Cinema Now Site
provides full length movies from well-known studios like Disney, MGM, 20th
Century Fox, Miramax, Lionsgate and Warner Bros. Founded in 1999,
they are one of the first sites to make deals with the major studios to supply
legal movie downloads.
They also offer an adult movies section complete with effective
parental controls. The monthly and yearly Platinum Club free trials
provide complete access, and allow you to test all this out for 7
days before you buy.
The parental controls are handled through
sub-accounts. It's easy to setup a sub-account and give it
restricted access. Then make sure you only give your children the
sub-account password. They will login with the UserName from
the main account, and the password from the sub-account.
They do take your credit card information at signup time, but as long as
you cancel within 7 days the card will not be charged. When we tried this
we had no problem, no charges showed up on our credit card.
Still, we would recommend signing up for the monthly rather than the
yearly free trial. This way if you forget to cancel before the 7 days are
up you are not out as much money. If you decide you like the service and
prefer a yearly subscription, simply cancel the monthly membership
before the free trial expires, then signup for the yearly service.

The bigger players, such as Apple and Amazon,
are just starting to get into the movie downloads arena. While these are
options, the cost for their individual downloads are generally as high or
higher than buying the DVD, and generally do not have all the extras typically
found on the DVD.
That's why we tend to prefer the subscription based sites listed
here. Your monthly fee will usually be less than the cost of downloading
just one or two movies from Amazon Unbox or other large
sites.
Renting the DVD from an online DVD rental site is another
possibility. This gives you the extra bonus features that you won't find
in movie download files, and is a surprisingly convenient service. They
make it all very easy.
